Unscrupulous authors often lie in supposedly-factual books. Being sure they're lying is a lot of work, which they count on you not doing. Here are some cheaper heuristics to get a good idea of whether this author is a liar.
The idea is that if an author writes like a liar, it's best to move on to someone trustworthy.
The site is sucker.wiki.oddly-influenced.dev
because I want you to be angry that these authors are playing you for a sucker. Also save a little anger for reviewers and pundits who don't do the work to warn you what you're getting.
This wiki is extracted from a Blog Series I did a while ago. Ideally, I'll add new techniques over time.
The Heuristics are named after the tricks authors use or after particular authors themselves. That makes them more memorable. For example, Gish Gallop was coined long ago (not by me), and I think the alliteration made it "stickier," so much so that it got a Wikipedia page
.
